Mushrooms

Mushrooms, autumn treasures

In autumn, each walk in the forest may seem like a treasure hunt ! Treasures which are usually appreciated during the course of a delicious meal.  Of course, we are talking about mushrooms such as morels, ceps, chanterelles …

In autumn, the forest  becomes  the most popular place for gourmands ! Because in the autumn, the forests of the Mézenc and  Meygal  abound with  sometimes curiously shaped treasures with melodious names and intoxicating flavours.

A knowledgeable walker will stop at the foot of a beech tree, an evergreen or look under the moss to find them and will always feel the same surprise mixed with joy when he does …

Children are able to change an ordinary walk into a remarkable quest. The older ones find more interest in what they can do with their prize in the kitchen and try to imitate the greatest chefs.

One of these great chefs has made these treasures his speciality. In the small village of Saint Bonnet-le-Froid, situated a few minutes away from Mont Mézenc  and the massif of Meygal, Régis Marcon , a three-star chef, has dedicated his restaurant to them.

So you have realized ! These treasures, and the list is incomplete, are called ceps, boletus chanterelles, morels or simply common parasol.

Before starting out, don’t forget to take your basket with you but also this advice addressed to novices so that your walk does not have unfortunate consequences. Do not make your dog your guinea-pig ! Ask for advice in the pharmacy in Le Monastier-sur-Gazeille or Fay-sur-Lignon in case you have any doubts whether the mushrooms are edible.
